Antibodies are proteins produced by the immune system in response to invading bacteria, viruses (antigens), or other foreign substances.

They bind specifically to antigens, neutralize (inactivate) them, and help eliminate them from the body.

IgY (Immunoglobulin Yolk) refers to antibodies naturally contained in egg yolk.

• *Mammals (including humans): Antibodies are transferred from the mother to the offspring through the placenta or breast milk.
• *Birds (such as chickens): Antibodies are accumulated in the egg yolk and delivered from the mother to the chick.

Pathogenic bacteria such as Escherichia coli O157 and Salmonella can infect the body and damage gastric and intestinal cells, leading to gastrointestinal disorders and diarrhea. IgY antibodies competitively bind to these bacteria, preventing them from attaching and destroying gastrointestinal cells, while inhibiting bacterial growth and supporting their elimination from the body.
